![]() New Showdown Mode is an improved version of Shadow Mode, you can now basically queue commands even in this mode, and it leaves a ghost trail to show you how the specific character will play out. Also these badges are tracked both globally and on a per play-through basis, meaning you can challenge yourself in different ways. After you've finished a mission, during any subsequent play through you can now see all badges (special achievements) that are available during the mission, instead of having to go back to the menu. Multiple Quality of Life improvements have been made. There are also situations where "going loud" can be beneficial. There are now "safe areas" in some missions that allow the player just to explore and roam around naturally with the characters, instead of being stealthy all the time. Mission, objective and map variation have all been turned up a notch. The environments are more detailed, the music is more varied, the models are sharper, they have more varied animations, especially in the cut scenes, which all lend the game more immersion. Obvious visual and audio improvements have been made. As it stands, this game is almost a masterpiece. They might as well churn out game after game with level after level with the same mechanics, and it will still be very satisfying to play. But none of these take away anything from the strong, deep and established gameplay loop, which is weirdly fascinating and alluring to solve. There are few issues with the game, like lack of a few quality of life settings such as pause or fast forward, or the fact that you will likely start being reliant on a few characters, etc. I had serious withdrawals when the game ended, as I really fell in love with the levels and the gameplay loop. The characters are well written and voice acted their banter feels very natural and they grow on you. The story portrays honor, loyalty, kinship, betrayal and revenge in Japan's Edo period and is full of charm and twists. The increasing challenge and difficulty as the game progresses will sometimes feel downright impossible, but solving each of these challenges will provide great satisfaction. Controlling multiple characters with multiple abilities creates a sandbox of numerous possibilities, all of which you will want to exploit. Racking your brain to find out the perfect way to progress is immensely fun and satisfying. If anything, it made me more hungry for more levels.Įach level is a large and intricate puzzle, populated by enemies which themselves pose as individual pieces of puzzle. While I love the stealth genre, I was a complete novice for this RTT genre, but that did not hamper the enjoyment this game offered. One of the best stealth games I have ever played.
